The two Kingspan ranges we stock
Air-Cell, the flexible reflective range
Air-Cell is built around sealed air cells and a reflective facing rather than bulk fibre. It comes in rolls, it is thin, and it works by reflecting radiant heat rather than slowing conducted heat through a thick layer. That is what makes it useful where there is very little depth to give away.
We stock Insulbreak 70 and Insulbreak 90, Permicav XV, Permifloor 500, Permishield XV70 and Glareshield. Each sits in a different part of a build, so check the product page for the application and the current specification before you order.
Kooltherm, the rigid board range
Kooltherm is rigid board. It holds its shape, it is mechanically fixed rather than friction fitted, and it returns more R-value per millimetre than a batt of the same thickness. We stock two lines, the Kooltherm K3 Floorboard and the Kooltherm K10 G2 Soffit Board.
Worth saying plainly, because it is what a supplier should say: most jobs are still a batt job. Board earns its cost where depth is genuinely constrained or where the detail will not take a batt. Everywhere else, a batt gives you the same result for less money per square metre. If you are weighing the two up, the insulation batts range is the honest comparison.
Where Kingspan gets specified on Melbourne builds
The pattern we see is consistent. Kingspan comes into a job for one of four reasons.
- The cavity is too shallow. A retrofit into existing framing, or a design where the stud depth is fixed and the target R-value will not fit in fibre.
- Floor to ceiling height will not move. Common on multi-residential and townhouse work where every millimetre of build-up eats into a ceiling height that has already been signed off.
- The detail is exposed or will not hold a friction fit. Soffits, overhangs, and anywhere a batt has nothing to sit against.
- A thermal break is needed. Where framing or steel would otherwise bridge straight through the insulated layer.
For standard stud cavities, ceilings and most acoustic work, we will tell you to use a batt. See wall insulation and underfloor insulation for those.
Supply only, or supply and install
Builders usually want one or the other and it is rarely the same on every job, so we do both.
Supply only. Delivered to site or collected free from our Nunawading factory. Send the quantities, or send the plans and we will do the take off.
Supply and install. Our own installers, working to your program rather than ours. We have been scheduling around builders’ sequencing since 1965, so we understand what a missed window costs you.
We work across Melbourne, Geelong and the Mornington Peninsula on residential, multi-residential and townhouse projects, and on accessible office fit-outs.
Common questions
Are you an approved Kingspan supplier?
Yes. We supply and install the Kingspan range and have done for years, alongside the other major insulation brands.
Is Kingspan better than batts?
Not better, different. Board gives you more R-value in less depth, which matters when depth is the constraint. A batt gives you better value per square metre when it is not. Most residential jobs are batt jobs.
Can I buy Kingspan without installation?
Yes. Supply only is available on everything we stock, for delivery or free pickup from Nunawading.
Do you stock the whole Kingspan range?
We stock the lines Melbourne builders actually call for, six Air-Cell products and two Kooltherm boards. If you need something outside that, call us and we will tell you honestly whether we can get it.
Can you price from plans?
Yes, and it is usually the fastest way. Send the drawings through and we will come back with a take off and a price for supply, or supply and install.
