Acoustic insulation R2.0 in the Pink Batts Soundbreak range is a 70 mm glasswool batt made to slow the noise that travels between rooms. It is denser than a standard wall batt, and it is the one to use where the wall frame is 70 mm, because a thicker batt squeezed into a shallow cavity loses both its acoustic and its thermal performance. Made in Australia by Fletcher Insulation and covered by a lifetime warranty.
Alongside the sound control it carries an R2.0 thermal rating, so an internal wall built for quiet also holds temperature between the rooms either side of it.

R2.0 or R2.7 Soundbreak?
Frame depth decides it. A 70 mm stud wall takes R2.0. A 90 mm stud wall takes R2.7 Soundbreak, which is thicker and gives a little more of both sound control and thermal resistance. Common questions
Does R2.0 Soundbreak soundproof a wall?
It reduces sound transfer rather than eliminating it. The batts do a large part of the work, but the finished result also depends on sealing the gaps, the plasterboard used and whether the frame carries vibration from one side to the other. Acoustic batts in a well sealed, well specified wall is what gets a quiet room.
How many packs do I need?
Measure the wall area you want treated in square metres and divide it by the coverage of the pack, 4.99 m² for 430 mm batts and 6.73 m² for 580 mm batts. Round up and allow a little for offcuts around windows, doors and power points.
Can R2.0 Soundbreak go in a ceiling?
Between floors in a two storey home, yes, where the joist depth suits a 70 mm batt. For a ceiling below a roof space you want a higher R-value for thermal performance, so step up to a ceiling rating in the insulation batts range instead.
